Pros
The hardest part about leaving PHS was the people—well, some of the people. Some people have your best interest at heart, and some don't, especially if you're part of a younger demographic. I guess getting off an hour early on Fridays was also a plus.
Cons
Let's see. Where do I begin? When I first started at PHS, I found it weird that one of the partners continued to ask if I was having any problems with my current boss. At first, I thought he was just being nice but I later learned that so many people have been in my position but changed to others due to working with the head of the marketing department. It took a lot not to quit, because she was condescending, rude, and honestly set out to make other people's lives miserable. Whenever I made mistakes, she would send me passive-aggressive emails and teams messages for projects she didn't take the time to fully train me on. So, I limited verbal communication with her. To protect my peace, I came in, put my headphones in, and did my work. Not to mention, there wasn't enough work to do so the majority of the time, I was pretending to be busy since didn't trust me with any other projects.
Fast forwarding to March, we hired a new director of marketing. At first, I was excited because I thought I had the opportunity to learn marketing since my background was in journalism. He started off invested in helping me learn the rules of marketing which I was very appreciative of. He helped me take the storytelling techniques I learned from journalism and apply them to my writing with the CBA website. As the months progressed with him on board, I noticed everyone else on my team getting their full one-on-one time except for me. When he would meet with me, he would be scrolling on his phone, barely listening to what I had to say so I stopped talking to him unless I had to. The straw that broke the camel's back is when he decided to talk down on my personality because I come off as quiet and reserved and "it's not going to get me very far in life." As soon as that encounter happened, I was applying for jobs that night. Two weeks after applying, I had job offers to choose from. So thank you for being my motivation to leave.
Nobody at the company likes the marketing team, and honestly, I don't blame them. I hope that you can take what I said and learn from it. Since I abruptly left, please use this as my exit interview.
