Some software tweaking would make the review process more efficient, but as this software was provided by third party, opportunities for modifying it were limited.

The managers are very supportive, fair, and firm with those who don't pull their weight. There's great culture here - people are helpful, open-minded, and fun to work with, even though a fair amount work from home. Sometimes it's hard to feel connected to others since you don't physically see them everyday (most are remote), but that's just part of the company structure.
