Layoffs, turmoil reveal dysfunction and discrimination - Grassroots Engagement Director Progressive Turnout Project Employee Review

Pros

kind colleagues, ability to work remotely

Cons

Dishonest fundraising efforts directed by bloated, ineffective and rigid leadership of this large federal PAC, which has brought in $48.5 million through the end of 2022, should alarm the progressive community and those dedicated to contacting voters through relational and distributed organizing. As slower online fundraising and reduced grassroots engagement impact politics, staff reductions are not surprising and sadly expected these days. What is inexcusable, though, is PTP's cruelty and dishonesty as the organization has engaged in shocking layoffs and complete pivots without strategy or a clear vision. It's especially heartbreaking -- and embarrassing -- when an organization that has trumpeted its anti-racism work has continued a harmful culture despite pleas from staff, and disproportionately recently laid off people of color and members of the Change Team pushing for more equitable policies. Of course every employee has an axe to grind after getting laid off. Please take this review to heart. I designed it to warn interested employees, partners, vendors and grassroots groups -- especially those without the protections of privilege -- to take extreme care when engaging with PTP. I'm happy to provide more details or answer any questions if you can find me. I do not need to be anonymous.
