Pros
My Immediate Manager and other Managers not at Corporate were wonderful for the most part and genuinely tried to treat staff not just as intelligent adults but as valued. Pay for lower ranking employees is higher than other equivalent jobs with room for bonuses.
Cons
Unfortunately Corporate seemed to go out of their way to undercut managers and treat staff like a classroom of 3rd graders rather than adults. Corporate would claim to do all they could do make every store & every department a success while completely ignoring simple ideas & requested help that would improve said store or department. Worst yet is corporate would then claim that those ideas & request were never made or just out right steal them giving no credit to the manager(s) and staff. There was also a nasty climate at corporate where they would pit one store / department against others not even for additional compensation or resources but in some juvenile attempt to create an "in" and "out" crowd; the basis of which would have nothing to do with dedication & results but if one of a few of the middle corporate "managers" liked you. Worst yet and a recipe for stress was if one of those same middle corporate "managers" were jealous of you in any way; I personally was not that high on the ladder but watched it happen. The store / department managers had to do a juggling act where they had to be good but not too good and always show deference to this particular group of people or work would become untenable not just for that manager but for their staff. I would work for my direct manager & supervisor again in a heartbeat but never for those few in corporate. I left high school & middle school behind long ago and have no desire to relive it in a work environment.
