Pros

The clients had some fun, creative projects. It gave me experience in the agency industry.

Cons

Management was unstructured and disorganized. They piled way too much work on their employees and there was high turnover with very little knowledge transfer. The owner derailed projects when she got involved and then complained about running up the budgets. She was very manipulative and bullied people into doing her bidding rather than trusting her own employees.

Pros

In March 2018, Red-Rhino hired me to consult on their organization and structure. Led by their dynamic CEO, I’ve found that Red-Rhino is both a strategic and creative force, developing outstanding work and constantly building breakthrough campaigns for their clients—no wonder they are growing at a rapid rate!

Cons

After interviewing key managers, it became apparent that the Chief Creative Officer had to be removed. She was not showing up for work, creating tension when she was there and causing key clients to complain. When I interviewed her, I found her unstable and antagonistic towards the Red-Rhino CEO, falsely claiming she was a con. I immediately recommended that, for the well-being of the agency and their clients, the newly hired Chief Creative Officer be immediately let go. At first, the CEO resisted, but considering the damage that could be done, the CEO did agree. Three days later, the CEO and I met with the Chief Creative Officer and provided her with a fair dismissal package. In the advertising business, people are the product, and as such, successful agencies must carefully select, train and – sadly – remove people as necessary.
