Cons
RelayMile is a company with two official employees, the CEO and his wife. I worked with them for 3 months. The CEO hinted that good performance might lead to employment. He also implied how much i would be mentored and grow but in reality, it was just a bunch of college students providing free labor. The worst part of this project is the lack of technical leadership. The codebase is buggy everywhere with zero documentation. Some interns have zero understanding of design patterns and just throw code into the main server driver. The CEO’s response to such issues are always “we know” and “we will fix them later”. If you head over to the website now, 4/7/22, their website is exactly the same as it was when I was there almost a year ago. I’ve had potential employers ask me about my time at RelayMile and why the website is such an awful landing page. If you are looking at RelayMile to build experience, go elsewhere. It’s unpaid and though advertised as part time, the CEO pushes you for full time and beyond with zero regard for any of your other obligations. He will also guilt trip you by talking about how FAANG succeed by pushing themselves and how if you don’t, you’re unfit for them.
