Pros

- interesting data - a lot of opportunity in the marketplace for this type of analysis - small company so ability to make a bigger impact - the Boston based director of engineering seemed sharp if he is still there

Cons

- No planning or project management process at all. Very reactive with daily changes in priority. CEO's wife is the head of product and de-facto boss of the company. She has passion for the job but it is not backed up by a lot of skill in either the managerial soft people skills, project management or technical product knowledge so it ends up just being micro management and chaos which is hard to work around. - An absolutely awful offshore software development team. They are protected by the leadership and openly fight any upgrades to any of the systems or new technologies. Very hostile and uncooperative. - Generally a chaotic, toxic environment and a culture of making unreasonable demands and blaming the employees. Extremely high turnover.

Pros

In the time I have been here at Rifiniti, I have been impressed by the technical team. The team has a breadth of knowledge and expertise that is unusual in a company this size and age. The team is very flat, with few barriers to communication. The team checks egos at the door, and everybody's questions and input matter. The management team is highly competitive, which means that the company moves very fast. People are given opportunities to get exposed to new technology, clients, and workflow. This is a terrific place for a newcomer to the tech world to push their talents and grow their experience quickly -- probably doing things that they wouldn't get a chance to do at a more established firm.

Cons

This firm is growing fast, and has experienced growing pains. The hard work required to get the application finished and out the door has been substantial. The firm is transitioning to a more automated flow, and sharp transitions can be bumpy. As the firm grows at an astonishing rate, in a market that would test anybody's strategic planning, this team has been able to pull off some terrific wins. But, the way that you start a company is not necessarily the way that you take a company to the next level. And change can be both an opportunity for some, and a problem for others. As for management, they are competitive, no question. They understand that in business there is no second place. That constant attention to success can be tough on a team. But, the management is learning alongside the team, making the changes necessary to break through to the next level. Though it's sometimes stressful, it's the only way I know to ensure success.
