Great Experience, Bad pay - Clinical Therapist II Riverside University Health System Employee Review

Pros

Offers great experience when working on licensure as an LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC. They will make sure you are working on licensure with getting your hours signed off. There is a good culture and lots of good people working in mental health for Riverside County. Plenty of opportunity to advance if that's what you are looking for. (At least once they stop freezing positions).

Cons

Once licensed it is a minimal pay increase and not at all competitive with private companies like Kaiser and only a fraction of what you can earn as a solo practitioner. Productivity expectations are too high, given the severe types of clients you will be working with. You will get burnt out and you do not have control of your schedule in order to pace yourself with direct client care and practice self-care. Supervisor's are not supportive or even involved in how you are doing. I can count on one hand how many times I was given praise even though I was the highest producing CT and provided innovation in my work setting. Staff are getting burnt out and lots of licensed therapists are leaving for greener pastures.
