Pros
1) A really talented team of very passionate people. You'll learn a great deal here. 2) Great work/life balance. Despite the rush and high-energy of a startup, management is very committed to ensuring that people take the time they need off from work. You here about a lot of bad experiences from folks who've worked where there has been an open vacation policy, but Root has been great. 3) There is a great deal of individual autonomy. You'll feel empowered (and accountable) in each and every endeavor. 4) Compensation is competitive. You're free to think about your contributions to the team and not concern yourself with rather or not you are being fairly paid. 5) While benefits were a bit costly initially, the company is paying a greater percentage now and also offers a 401k with a pretty great match. You also get an allowance to purchase a new phone yearly. 6) Culture is great. In addition to a fantastic vibe in-office, the team socializes frequently via dinners, game nights, and the like. 7) Growth is continuos - this can be a pro and a con of course. But if you enjoy a high-energy and fast-paced work dynamic, Root is perfect.
Cons
1) We've outgrown our office space rather quickly. Thankfully, there is more room coming. Growing pains are, though, a fact of life. The struggle is real.
