Pros

Formerly there were very good benefits associated with employment. Tuition remission for children helps off set the cost of attending the university. Very broad and diverse work environment

Cons

There is a significant disconnect between those working with the students and those in the upper administration. Typically the upper administration follow political guided back scratching over putting the students first. Office buildings are worn and show significant aging. My former building the wall paper was peeling off and anytime one bumped up against a wall they would come away covered in powder. Additionally do to misalignment of budgets many employees are being stuck with decreasing benefits while salaries of the upper administration continue to rise. There are constant salary freezes and minimal compensation when contract issues are resolved.

Pros

co-workers are super nice, friendly and collaborative. Good flexibility in work arrangements. My immediate boss is nice.

Cons

Morale is quite low, and turnover is high. We are losing good people and goals are not being met. Senior Leader tell us to do more with less, and do not want constructive feedback. They don't lead by example, taking elaborate trips instead of being present and supporting staff. Rules don't apply to them. So disappointing, not what you would expect from a public university.
