Pros
I absolutely loved my students. The only reason I stayed for the entire year was because I didn’t want to feel like I quit on them. Most of my colleagues were also invested in their students, and we had a really close bond, including my direct supervisors.
Cons
Upper management is a disaster. For starters, their true priority is numbers rather than actual student improvement; it is all about appearances rather than reality. Management that is working directly in the classroom is ignored and not given the tools and resources needed to succeed. Also, lesson plans are sometimes provided day of, if at all. Often, they were riddled with typos and mistakes. Additionally, day-to-day expectations were constantly changing from what was established during training and upon signing our contract. There was also promise of student loan forgiveness which was not actually followed through on. Compensation is laughable for the hours and work put in. It is not possibly a liveable wage in one of the most expensive cities in the world. There are plenty of other opportunities in education or education reform that are not only more effective, but also pay much better.
