Pros

Very good training especially if you are not from a petroleum engineering background; No discrimination in nationality, gender, religion, etc. True multicultural company; High tech company; Huge initial salary and benefits for international career. Very attractive for graduates from developing countries.

Cons

Very bad work-life balance. Lots of work on weekends, until late without a single penny or recognition. You need to sell your soul to Schlumberger and forget your family. No Christmas, birthdays, Sundays, etc… If you have a manager that does not like you then your life will be a hell and you will have a bad appraisal that will impact the rest of your career. You just follow receipts in the first three years. High turnover. Around 50% of new hired do not reach 3 years in the company. No respect from the senior staff in basic human necessities: vacations, days off, etc. Sometimes a simple thank you is difficult to hear. Lower salaries compared with competition and clients.

Pros

Good people at the local level. The work is engaging and challenging.

Cons

Too many to count. Career advancements are extremely limited. Pay raises are minimal and don't get close to keeping up with inflation even for top performers. At the corporate level they are using acquisitions to hide massive layoffs. They return billions in profit to investors consistently, but there is still a constant threat of layoffs and multiyear freezes on pay raises even with inflation and solid corporate profit.
