Cons
Studiochic was a terrible experience and I would recommend anyone think strongly before accepting a position. -Long work hours. The owners, two sisters, will never ask if you are able to stay late. If you have another obligation you are expected to prioritize work over anything else. -Your personal time is not respected. Expect calls after business hours and on weekends. The expectation is that you will stop what you are doing and go back to work. -It is very unorganized. There have been times when work wasn’t reviewed for up to a year and times when projects were due to China that night, yet they were not reviewed until days later. It is very much a Boy Who Cried Wolf environment. -You are expected to manage them regarding meetings and will have to ask numerous times if they are ready. They will conveniently push off meetings until the end of the day forcing you to stay later than necessary. -Their behavior is passive aggressive and they have trouble making decisions. -I have seen employees who work remotely come in for a morning meeting only to end up waiting on them all day. -Owners are very picky, but have trouble articulating what they want and using correct design terminology. -They do not fully understand the design process and certain technical aspects of artwork. They get extremely caught up in little things and you will rework a design over and over again. Being in the Design and Product development industry for over 10 years, I had never experienced anything like it. -They never give constructive feedback. -They have never honored the benefits guaranteed in employment contracts. -Pay is extremely low for the amount of work and skills required. They want someone that can do it all. The titles of the positions do not match the work, so they can pay you less. -Covid was handled very poorly. Masks were not worn by the owners and social distancing wasn’t implemented until many months into the pandemic. -An employee exhibited signs of Covid and they had them return to work the day after they were tested prior to getting test results back putting others at risk. This was done to get a project completed prior to the weekend and business was put before their employees’ health and safety. -Paychecks have been forgotten causing employees to be paid late. -There is no direct deposit. -Computers that were provided did not support design software, which were pirated programs from 2012. -They will likely add fluff reviews to try and counterbalance the poor ones, which was done on other review platforms.
