Pros

I am thankful for a job and paycheck but that is pretty much the only pro at working at Safeway.

Cons

There is no "training" at Safeway unless you enter the management training program. I have been offered several promotions into management but turned them down because of the time and money involved. By the time you pay for health insurance and divide the number of hours worked---much more than 50, you are back to making about $13-$15 per hour. Safeway went from a premier company that valued it's employees and customers to a company who screws their employees at every chance they get with our customers getting the brunt end. Safeway keeps cutting hours to perform a certain task but still expects you to complete the task with added needless paperwork. Customer service has been sacrificed for the almighty dollar as have the employees. Employee morale is low because of all of the above. Safeway just doesn't get it. When you have happy appreciated employees you will get the added work performance that they are striving to obtain through their whip approach. Hopefully with the new buyout the employees will get the tools and hours needed to perform their jobs with pride and accomplishment and then our customers ill get the service they pay dearly for...no more long lines at the check out.

Pros

Friendly and helpful colleagues, weekly pay and flexible schedule

Cons

When it is busy, it is very busy. Lunch/Break may get pushed back or even denied in extreme cases because there is no one to cover for you.
