Pros
Great adventure biologist job for someone fresh out of college. Great for the short term. Decent money to help pay off student loans. Little to no expenses in the field. Travel from Seattle to Alaska, and company/vessel lodging provided.
Cons
The longer you are with the company, you will find a dozen people in training for the position, when you are told there is no work. Little to no communication with field coordinators in the field when serious issues arise. (My experience) Nickel and dimed when it comes to letigimate expense reimbursement. Position pay not keeping up with cost of living. One dollar/day raise afforded and fought against by the company every 3 years. Long hours. Possible to work 12+hours a day for several months at a time continuously. The company gets paid by the fishing companies regardless of employee competence, wether exceling or lacking. So, there is no incentive to retain or give work to experienced people who cost more than fresh faces.
