Pros

Spectacular location - The Santa Lucia Preserve is an amazing landscape to work in. It contains incredible biodiversity, dramatic topography, is surrounded by other conservation lands and has a human community (The Preserve land owners and staff) that help the Conservancy care for the 20,000 acres. Dynamic Team - the staff at the Conservancy is driven, high energy and focused on science guided management of the lands of the Santa Lucia Preserve. Well Funded - the Conervancy operates off of a well managed endowment that covers the annual budget. Fundraising and grant writing provide added funds for special projects.

Cons

Cost of living - the cost of living in California can be challenging, the Monterey area is no exception.

Pros

- Great staff and volunteers - Excellent opportunity to gain valuable field and office skills - 20,000+ beautiful acres of mixed habitats to work in - Flexible schedules - Opportunities to network and make friends - You get to have fun The Santa Lucia Conservancy is one of the best places I have ever worked. They have such an amazing management team. Not only will you be surrounded by very nice people, but you will learn and grow a lot here. The Conservancy is a well-known organization in the community and volunteering for them would be a great opportunity to pick up experience to boost your career. I have been visiting their website and do read their newsletters and I am seeing that there are some really great things going on at the preserve. It has grown so much with programs for interns and volunteers. The preserve has around 200 homes and is private to the public. The role of the Conservancy is to manage the land to ensure that it stays virtually undeveloped. You'll have the chance to work in all kinds of habitats and see many animals, which is a very nice perk. I highly recommend working with the Conservancy if you’re seeking an internship or would just like to volunteer, learn, and have some fun.

Cons

They work with a small budget so it is somewhat difficult to get a full-time paid job here.
