Pros
SchoolHouse is incredibly supportive of its teachers! The model itself puts teachers at the center of the educational experience and the company really values and encourages teachers to be creative in developing lessons and experiences for students. The small pod setting allows for much deeper relationships with students and families and more individualized instruction for students. Having fewer students also means you can spend less time grading and preparing materials and more time building a rich learning experience for your kids. Lastly, the team at SchoolHouse does everything it can to ensure teacher and student success - they provide materials and resources for teachers, as well as weekly coaching sessions to help brainstorm and troubleshoot. I cannot recommend SchoolHouse enough!
Cons
Teaching in a pod is different from teaching in a traditional school in that you don't have co-workers down the hall to go to for advice and support. Although I do miss that proximity, SchoolHouse does a good job of trying to build community amongst its teachers through its online Circle platform. There, teachers can share resources, ask questions, and get to know each other, despite working in different cities and states. I think this will be even better post-pandemic when groups of local teachers can meet in person, outside of school.
