We do our best to accommodate subs geographic preferences, however our ultimate goal is to place the right teacher in the right classroom. Sometimes a substitute assignment requires a specific credential or experience level, and we prioritize students success over proximity. However, we have no minimum work requirements and all subs are welcome to decline work that doesn’t suit them. Our school’s substitute needs vary and at the time of your hire, it's very possible we were in high demand in your area. If you contact us then we can look into exactly what’s happening your area to provide a more complete explanation. As for the isolated incident you mentioned, we hope you feel empowered to decline a proposed assignment if it interferes with your schedule or geographical preferences. LA traffic is tricky and I can imagine the frustration of having to arrange pick up for your kids. We pride ourselves in partnering with all types of schools across LA and charter schools are one of our largest partners. At Scoot, we're eager to work with substitute teachers who understand the complexities of the student populations they serve and show up with compassion, empathy and kindness. Only you can control what happens in the classrooms we send you to, but we work hard to work with stellar substitutes who understand the education system isn't perfect but are still willing to show up whole-heartedly to create exceptional classroom experiences. In terms of setting your availability; we do NOT have a minimum availability requirement (you can work as much or as little as you like) but we do ask you to keep your schedule up-to-date so we don’t bother you when you’re not available. Doing that makes life easier for you and us which is why we contact our subs to remind them to update their schedule. You have a Consultant in our office who is available to discuss your preferences and we do our best to comply with them.
