Pros
- Very flexible hours - Easy to get hired (scheduled an interview online) - Good commission compared to other department stores - Decent employee discount - Low stress environment
Cons
- Training left much to be desired. Consisted mainly of how to use the register. Never learned about how to use the telephone system. Very minimal training about the jewelry we were selling. I learned about the products through other employees and reading magazines. - Very isolated from other departments. Outside of other jewelry associates and managers, I never had contact with other employees. - There was a lot of pressure to up-sell. Managers and the training constantly reminded employees to sell product protection plans or get customers to sign up for the store credit card. Each department/employee was given a quota that they were required to meet. Though bonuses were given if you were to meet them, this was unfair to certain departments with very low traffic or those working during slow hours (early morning and weekdays). To be fair, certain managers recognized this and were more lax towards those departments.
