Pros

I had a kind, humble manager that was enjoyable to work with, without much presence or participation provided outside my direct dept. You will find incredibly gifted, hard-working individual contributors at this company.

Cons

Many individuals informed upon hiring they are there to evolve and drive change for a scrappy startup, without much opportunity to truly do so once employed. This could be due to lack of coordinated operations within departments and as a whole, lack of direction nor openness to feedback from leadership, ill-purposed meetings, tooling, and more. Workplace can be a bit toxic and retaliatory in certain departments, with feedback provided at your own risk; bandwidth will be the excuse, without an open forum on topics for those employed currently. With this, you are not welcomed to bring topics back up, once written off. Employees are often let go unexpectedly.

Pros

If you are passionate about working for a mission that truly matters and has both national and global impact, this is the place for you. I often hear that our work-life balance isn’t always perfect—and honestly, it shouldn’t be. Do we work seven days a week with no rest? No. But do we put in extra hours because the mission demands it? Absolutely. Every week, I know that my efforts are making a tangible difference. I didn't come here for an easy schedule; I came to be challenged and to do something important. A company's value shouldn't be judged solely by its work-life balance, as that standard isn't realistic for every industry. Will you work hard here? Yes. Will the reward be worth it? Ten times over.

Cons

Operating in a scaling startup means navigating rapid priority shifts and the mental tax of context-switching. To thrive here, one must maintain a balance of about 60% foundational work while remaining agile enough to handle the 40% that constantly changes. This fluid environment is not unique to 2F; it is the natural byproduct of an organization scaling in a fast-moving industry. We have made significant strides on this front. We are now anchored by a three-year vision that provides both strategic stability and the necessary elasticity to pivot ensuring that while our tactics adapt, our North Star remains constant.

Pros

What drew me to Second Front was the opportunity to work at a mission-obsessed company operating at the intersection of national security, modern software, and public-private collaboration. There are very few organizations trying to solve the problem of getting commercial technology into government environments at scale, and even fewer that are actually doing it. From my role working closely with leadership and cross-functional teams, what stands out most is the clarity of purpose and the caliber of people the mission attracts. The team combines deep technical expertise with real understanding of the federal landscape, which is a rare and valuable combination. People here care deeply about impact, not just output, and that shows in how decisions are made and how teams collaborate.

Cons

This is still a scaling company operating in a highly regulated and complex ecosystem. That means priorities can shift and processes evolve as we learn and grow. It’s a great environment for people who enjoy building and improving systems, but it can feel fast-moving or ambiguous at times.
