Pros
Gresham is convenient to some
Very low level of skills needed, ad says they don't hire people with no experience but if you can make your very shortest job sound relevant to care-giving you're golden
Always, always, always hiring
On a bus line, about a mile and a half from Gresham Transit Center - also boasts ample parking
2 weeks pto after a year (which was able to be paid out, at least when I worked there)
Other benefits available, such as semi-decent healthcare that becomes less expensive over time
Staff participation in holidays and special events, while often a lot of extra work, makes it feel more like family, the residents are thankful and you may even be able to carve out some ot
Pay is above minimum wage
Work isn't terribly difficult, and if you are self-directed you can learn a lot about psychiatric medications, develop cleaning methods, and on some shifts you are also responsible for cooking
Some employees really enjoy the rotating schedule (4 on 2 off)
Lots of interaction with the clients in all shifts but grave
Cons
Gresham is extremely out of the way for some
Rude, borderline abusive management
While present in some capacity, dwindling benefits
Vacation can be difficult to get approved
Uneven treatment across employees but never really nice and/or welcoming
No room for advancement
Rules that are verbal, change often and/or conflict with each other
Literally a whole new staff every year except for 2-3 lifers due to turnover
Being stuck there because it's shift work and other employees don't come in or call
Having to work as a cook and a med aid because one or the other is MIA
Having to train a new person at least once a month, sometimes once a week
Doing janitorial work and cleaning up some major messes (not for the squeamish)
Very institutionalized culture for staff as well as clients
Employer draws upon group of people for fill in work whose presence may be seen as a mark of nepotism
You will be worked harder and for less money than in comparable employment elsewhere
Employer is a for-profit company
