1. Toxic management culture Employees who voiced concerns were often met with silent treatment, and comments that could be interpreted as discriminatory were made, such as preferring not to hire women, saying men are "less trouble", and that team members who are single should accommodate those with families. These behaviours contributed to an unhealthy and demotivating work environment. 2. Poor communication skills Important decisions or instructions were often unclear, changed without warning, or denied afterwards. When previous conversations caused confusion or dissatisfaction, instead of clarifying or taking responsibility, the owner frequently responded with "I didn’t say that", "You misunderstood" or "Yes but...". This one-way communication style led to an atmosphere where employees felt unheard and, at times, unsafe to speak up. 3. Poor decision-making Management decisions often lacked transparency, fairness and logic. Salary cuts and later redundancies for certain employees were justified by financial instability, while other employees were promoted with pay raise during the same period. This pattern of contradictory decision-making made it difficult to trust management or the overall direction of the business.
