Pros

Friendly employees, free lunches, great work environment.

Cons

Higher ups expect everything out of you without putting in any effort themselves. When they can go on vacation after vacation and their employees have to work early and stay late to keep the company running.

Pros

I've worked at Spire for 2 years now and this is definitely my favorite job I've had. I had worked for nothing but big corporations before starting at Spire. The contrast between working for a big corporation and Spire is night and day. Pros of the company are that you get a small company atmosphere where everyone is a team. Everyone works toward a common purpose of helping the company grow. At Spire, I feel like my work actually has purpose and directly impacts the business. This has made me work even harder and care about my job more than any I ever had. Expectations are high, but also attainable. If you work hard, you're rewarded. I've had several salary increases and a promotion since starting all because I put in the hard work.

Cons

The biggest con I can think of isn't really even a con, more of a side effect of the company. This is a growing, but still small business. There aren't always a set of way of doing things, and in a lot of cases with new hires, people are hired specifically to help standardize the way things are done. People wanting to work for Spire should have the mindset that since this is a small company, you will be creating the standard.

Pros

The lower level employees and managers are all a pleasure to work with. Spire hires top-notch people who are fantastic co-workers to work alongside. The new renovated office space is chic and spacious. The company expects high levels of performance, which can be good for refining and sharpening your professional skills.

Cons

Spire Collective sets unrealistic expectations that causes employee burnout and turnover. The upper management mandated OKR (Objective Key Results) structure is often set without any input from the people who are actually doing the jobs. In many cases, these "goals" are set at unrealistic levels that go far beyond "reaching for the stars" (and yes, that is an actual company mantra). Across the board, management has unattainable expectations . When the employees (who know what is realistic within the industry) give feedback to upper level management, they are often ignored. Many who have left the company (including myself) report that there is a fundamental misunderstanding of the work that employees do; rather than constructive criticism, employees receive predominant negative feedback from managers who have little if any understanding of the specific job or task. Two other areas worth mentioning: 1) The company revoked my scheduled and pre-approved PTO when I turned in my two weeks notice (they also do not pay out any accrued vacation time). 2) During a time when Covid-19 cases were rising in the area, management asked that employees come back into the office, but did not implement a mask mandate.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We agree that we have a top-notch Team that makes coming to work exciting, and are pleased to hear that our high bar for performance helped you refine and sharpen your professional skills. That's what our Culture of Impact is all about! By taking on new challenges with great colleagues, we can really experience meaningful growth and development, and we hope that this serves you well as you take on a new professional role. We're sorry to hear that other elements of your experience with us weren't so positive, especially the way we use OKRs. One of the hallmarks of OKRs that sets them apart from other types of company goals is that they require us to truly stretch ourselves towards amazing. John Doerr wrote in "Measure What Matters" that "OKRs motivate us to excel by doing more than we'd thought possible. By testing our limits and affording the freedom to fail, they release our most creative, ambitious selves." We love that this framework helps us untether from old playbooks and find new ways to accomplish big things together. It's also important to us that the OKR process is collaborative, transparent, and ultimately inspiring, and we will learn from your feedback as we continue to improve. Best of luck to you on your new adventure!
