SPE could have been great - Manager StarPlus Energy Employee Review

Pros

The health insurance was fairly priced. SPE also had some of the most intelligent engineers that I’ve worked around. A lot of corporate holidays. Did send members overseas to train in sister plants.

Cons

The SDI management did not listen to the voices of anyone else besides other Korean nationals. Being a manager, the hourly SDI trainer had more say in the business than myself. Every other nationality other than Korean is treated as a second-class citizen. The engineers that I worked with were some of the most intelligent engineers that I have ever worked with. Those engineers left the company due to mistreatment. HR is the worst that I have ever witnessed. If you should have a problem, don’t expect it to be solved. As a matter up fact, just expect that problem to be swept under the rug. The safety culture is terrible. SDI members regularly bypass safety standards to complete tasks. I was told many times to skirt the safety regulations in place. No hourly time keeping in place. All hourly time keeping was done

Pros

I worked at StarPlus Energy in Kokomo. The workload was intense and very uneven — a small number of people carried most of the work while others did very little. Requests for help or fairer distribution were usually ignored. There was clear favoritism and a small group of people who seemed to run things together. Roles changed suddenly with little notice or support, and instructions from different leaders often contradicted each other. Promised compensation and benefits were not honored. HR and benefits administration is a mess. Turnover is very high. I saw many good people leave frustrated. If you're considering a job here, go in with eyes wide open. Get everything important in writing, and don't expect much support when things get tough. The big EV battery project sounds exciting, but the internal culture and reliability of commitments is poor.

Cons

If you get along with your supervisor/manager you don't have to be accountable for delivery, and you can make others do your work, or not. Does not seem to matter for SPE.
