Pros

None, I’m struggling to even come up with enough to fill the minimum number of words required by Glassdoor in this section.

Cons

I have never seen a company so negatively impacted by so few. This company is imploding, and at the nexus is an HR department that is completely out of touch with their employees & the business world in general. They have lost touch in the fact that company morale is at an all time low, everyone is miserable. They are forcing out anyone who refuses to genuflect to management, and/or dares to speak their mind. There’s also the feeling that they are forcing out employees with chronic illnesses (5-6 in the last year that I know of). They just implemented “My Plans” which most of the corporate world has eliminated over the last 2 decades as being a detriment to teamwork & employee morale. Benefits, 6% increase, while true fails to mention that it’s 6% of one of the highest deductions I’ve ever seen. If you are lucky enough to find someone who actually got a raise, odds are they will tell you it wasn’t enough to cover the increase in insurance. And, the final insult, if too many people dare to make bonuses for the year the next year they will eliminate those bonuses altogether. The fact that they expect you to believe the double speak contained in their review responses shows their lack of respect for any ones intelligence.

Steiner Electric Response

We appreciate your candor and feedback. We have taken to heart what you have shared, and would like to respond to your post. Steiner is not “imploding” and 2017 was a very strong year for our company. We’ve been around 102 years – as a 4th generation family-owned business. In the last few years, we’ve changed a lot as we respond to the changing needs of customers, the expectations of our suppliers and digitization of commerce. We are changing how we do things, but we are not changing who we are. Your statement about “My Plan” and performance management misses the point. We introduced the “My Plan” approach to ensure that our managers took the time to understand and try to align each employee to the right position, with the right tools and a mutual understanding of expected results. We want a company culture where managers coach and employees see Steiner as “the place of most potential” to grow their careers. Every manager at Steiner is required to complete 8 weeks of training around effective coaching and every employee has a plan for their professional development. Last year we also implemented a salary planning process to be more competitive (mentioned in response to earlier posts). In the last 12 months, over 95% of our existing employees have received a salary increase based on their performance. We’ve also benchmarked our benefits programs to ensure it is competitive. While rising health care costs continue to be out of the hands of most employers, we will continue to work together with employees to find a better approach. Together, we have built Steiner around five core values. • Customer focus – Put the customer in the center of everything we do • Be Accountable – Each of us is accountable to the entire team – Accountability applies to everyone • Integrity – Lead by example in an ethical and legal manner • Strong Team – We play as a unified and knowledgeable team • Be Safe – Do it safe or not at all Steiner continues to be a great place to work and we do many things right. The chance of a family owned company of reaching the centurion mark is one company in a thousand. Our company DNA has been built to last by the contributions of the many Steiner employees who have come before us. Last week we celebrated 3 team members reaching their 30-year anniversary. Whether you spend your entire career with us, or Steiner is your next step in a successful career path, we want you to join a team that lives our values and holds ourselves accountable to each other. Thank you.
