Pros

The compensation package was competitive, and there are capable individuals throughout the organization who are genuinely committed to their work. Projects have potential for technical and logistical complexity, which can be professionally rewarding under the right circumstances.

Cons

Role expectations were not clearly communicated across departments. Internal workflows showed signs of fragmentation, with legacy practices and informal hierarchies influencing project direction. It became difficult to establish consistent oversight or drive improvements due to a lack of alignment in responsibilities and communication flow. Collaboration across teams was hindered by inconsistent processes and differing interpretations of authority. While some initial efforts were made to support improvement, momentum was not sustained. Leadership showed reluctance to implement standard tools for accountability, team development, or performance management. This made it difficult to resolve inefficiencies, reinforce direction, or support new hires brought in to lead. Resistance to reporting and reluctance to follow management guidelines further compounded the issue. The decision-making structure may not suit professionals brought in for change, team restructuring, or quality oversight. Leadership hesitation and lack of alignment diluted authority and left structural gaps in support. Those being offered relocation or employment under a visa should seek written clarity on role authority, reporting structure, and long-term expectations across departments before committing. Confirming internal alignment in advance is especially important when tasked with cross-functional leadership or department-level change. Severance protections should also be clearly defined in writing in case separation occurs within the first year. In situations where relocation is costly and immigration-related procedures are self-funded, the absence of such safeguards can lead to serious financial and logistical hardship. For context, I relocated from the U.S.-Canada border region, where TN visa processing was familiar, low-risk, and easily accessible by car. After moving to Florida, similar procedures now require air travel to distant ports of entry and carry significantly more uncertainty. The impact of job loss under these conditions is not only financial, but also legal and logistical, particularly for foreign professionals whose immigration status is employer-tied.
