Pros

- Great atmosphere, well until the 14% layoff announcement. Now there is a culture of fear in the office and an overarching sense of anxiety. The announcement is still very "raw" so not too sure how things will settle down. Everyone feels like they will be next. - Benefits are amazing including the forma benefit - Salary is very competitive

Cons

- The company hasn't scaled well / grew too fast. There is major operational wastage in nearly every process / team. A lot of the operations run off slack and emojis which is bizarre (it seems FTX did this also?) - There is lots of irregularity in terms of financials which may be acceptable as a private company but they will struggle at IPO when the books will have to be opened. I foresee a situation similar to WeWork before they went for IPO.  - Leadership caused every employee major emotional distress by sending an email to everyone letting them know they may be laid off before the 14% were notified so trust in leadership is gone. - Leadership is concerned about leaks, thus some leadership video feeds that are broadcast are now watermarked with the name of the person watching them to stop screenshots and screen recordings from leaking. Big brother is watching all employees. - Their selection process for the 14% was seemingly random and Stripe lost a lot of key talent.- The food in the Dublin office is terrible as well as the snacks - They are severely understaffed on certain teams and you can work 24 hours a day if you are not careful of your boundaries. - The performance process is also brutal and only getting harder so prepare to be worked to the bone to do well - There is A LOT of Kool Aid in this company. "Success" has certainly gone to Patrick's head (check out his internal blog or his documents on Stripe's culture - very Jonestown) - There was a time when companies were run by old men in suits with 30/40 years experience behind them and Stripe should be no different. They should have drafted in someone experienced as CEO to scale the company. Is Patrick Collison the next Adam Neumann, Elizabeth Holmes or Sam Bankman-Fried? Time will only tell.

Pros

The work is very high impact and there are lots of opportunities to learn if you're not already familiar with the fintech space. Most of the big projects I've been on so far have been fun to work on. There are also a lot of talented, kind, and helpful engineers at Stripe who are really nice to learn from. I really enjoy my manager and the folks on my team. The money + bonuses are ~ok~. Pretty standard for a pre-IPO unicorn, but the goal is that there will be a big pay off later (fingers crossed).

Cons

- The work life balance is *bad*. For how many products Stripe has, we are a very lean company. Too lean. There's just a lot of work, and very very tight deadlines, very fast paced, and not enough engineers and product managers to do all of it. If you want WLB as an engineer, join an infrastructure team, not a product team. - There is little to no investment in making the engineering org more diverse. This was surprising to me because of a lot of public facing company statements, but don't be fooled like I was. People (at least in the eng org) do not care about diversity. - HR sucks. And of course they would, I guess. But I had a really negative experience with HR where I walked away feeling completely devalued and gaslit. - Dev environments kinda suck and make the work a lot slower than it should be.
