Pros
- Higher hourly rate than most college jobs.
- Very flexible around school schedule.
- Decent way to stay in shape.
- Customers would tip about 60% of the time.
- Camaraderie amongst the crew.
- There was generally a good deal of freedom to get the job done as the team leader saw fit. No bosses micromanaging since it usually was just the team lead and movers on site.
- The job was generally rewarding and fun at times.
- People who can't cut it don't stick around/get let go.
Cons
- Sporadic job assignments. There were times I only got 1-5 hours in a week. Some jobs would last 20+ hours including driving (uncommon).
- Some customer's homes/apartments were completely disgusting and it wasn't uncommon to move furniture reeking of pet...fluids.
- Not an easy job, you need to be in decent physical shape to move heavy furniture in all temperatures (including 100+ degree summer heat).
- There were jobs that literally took 30 minutes to complete, which means you got paid for half an hour even though it took about 2 hours out of your day to load the truck, drive to the site and back, etc.
