Pros

The only pro of working here is that the projects are some of the best in Los Angeles. But don't expect to create anything of value. Studio-MLA's lack of design thinking and vision leads to disappointing outcomes, as evidenced by the terrible masterplan for SoFi Stadium. Just read the reviews for getting an Uber out of an event.

Cons

This office is run by an older generation who engage in unproductive office gossip. The leadership lacks a clear vision, and the workplace culture is toxic. While there's talk of "diversity" and "equity," the reality suggests a more troubling undercurrent of sexism and racism compared to other offices. Gender disparities are evident, with junior men outearning senior women. Mia's leadership, though seasoned, is out of touch. She is too old to be running this practice alone. Unfortunately, she assembled a team that doesn't challenge her authority, leaving a void in succession planning. It’s irresponsible to have a practice with no vision for its own future. The titled principals lack substantial contributions to our field, raising questions about their qualifications. Overall, this office suffers from organizational inefficiencies, incompetence, and a negative, abusive atmosphere.

Pros

The people, and the projects. This team wins some amazing landscape architecture projects and is very capable and creative.

Cons

Like all Landscape Architecture jobs, we're never paid enough. Studio-MLA offers a competitive salary and great learning opportunities.

Pros

- interesting, high-level projects - while the team was small, a few colleagues were supportive and a pleasure to work with

Cons

- top-down, authoritarian management from the owner created a culture of poor management at all levels - opportunities for growth were extremely limited and at times was expected to handle work that didn’t match my job level - no real HR
