Pros

As to the positive sides… thumbs up to the HR department which does a good job managing us!!

Cons

I am an intern at SMG Languages. From my point of view, my internship is an overall negative experience, and I think many things would need to change for them to welcome interns in the best way. It seems like they have accepted too many interns at the time I am there, as we nearly outnumber the permanent employees in the office. This is an issue because many of us don’t get interesting tasks to do, as the tenders, strategias, translations and transcriptions are given to the “oldest” interns (so that they don’t have to train the new ones I guess). Therefore, a month in, and maybe 2 employees know my name at most. The communication can’t be considered a positive aspect either. I don’t have a tutor to explain clearly how to use the software, so the other interns did (if I had to give a positive aspect, I would say: the big intern team we are!! All in the same boat ready to help each other). The project managers are often busy (and I’m not blaming them) and can not allow time to train the interns or even give some tasks to do to help them a bit. We must rely on the manuals and video tutorials given at the start of the internship, but most of them are in Italian, which is a language not every intern speaks. By the way, even if Italian isn’t mandatory, communication is better with the ones that do speak it. In the end I would not recommend this internship to students if they want to learn about project management, because there are few chances they will. Filling contact forms to companies to let them know about them SMG is one task among the others that is only acknowledged in my internship agreement, and yet that’s the only thing I’ve been doing! I know we’re officially “assistants”, but still…

Thank you for your review, although I must point out that many of your comments are false, and now that you are growing up, we need to bring the discussion back to reality. Saying that the number of interns exceeds that of staff is a clear mathematical error, and we suggest that you refrain from making false statements, especially about data you are not familiar with. Tasks are assigned based on the interns' abilities, so if you have not been assigned certain tasks, it is because you have not demonstrated that you are capable of performing them. This is certainly not a shortcoming of the company, but rather a reality of the working world. You and all interns are officially assigned a tutor, in addition to specific trainers who prepare you for individual tasks, and this is also clearly stated in the internship contracts. The fact that you do not recognise this is contrary to the evidence and offends the work of your colleagues who have mentored and trained you. You complain that Italian is spoken in the company, but perhaps when choosing an internship in Italy, you should first find out what the national language is. Nevertheless, all our manuals are available in English, and this is even certified by our ISO 9001 certification. Finally, as a multinational company, our staff necessarily speak English, Spanish, French and Italian: if multilingualism is an obstacle for you, we recommend that you consider changing your course of study. We send you our warmest regards and hope that our advice will help you to base your future assessments on facts and to accept that the world of work is meritocratic.

Thank you for your kind words. However, we wonder how most employees could be dissatisfied if the atmosphere is nice. I personally know every other employee with whom we have helped build this company, and I am not aware of any dissatisfaction. We are a team of friends first and employees second. As for pay, I can confirm that this company pays very well and has a completely meritocratic environment. Best regards and good luck.
