Pros
I did make a few hundred off of StudySoup, but only after I sent numerous emails and complaints to customer service because I hadn't been paid, and in the end I was only paid for about half the work I did when I should have been paid for everything they said they would. If StudySoup were to function as it is supposed to and actually paid how it should, the company would be a really easy way for students to make decent money.
Cons
I gave them so many chances, I really did. But in the end, everything they say to you isn't true. If you want anything to get done you have to contact customer service, which i had to do every. single. time. I uploaded material. If something says it'll take 2-4 days to go through, expect actually 2-4 weeks. They say that all you need to do to get paid $35 is upload and share a study guide, but there are many loopholes that they don't tell you about upfront. The first of these is that it has to be uploaded 4 days before. They told me specifically that it was 2 days and I even have the notes from my first info session when they told me that... all of the sudden my study guide was ineligible even though the previous ones i uploaded, 2 days in advance, were fine and I got paid for those. They also REPEATEDLY emailed and texted me saying "upload your study guide now to earn $35," but if it was passed the deadline, why would they tell me to upload still? Oh yeah. So that they could get a study guide out of me and not pay me for it. Another loophole is that you have to do a success coach call before they'll give you your money (that they claimed you'd have just for uploading and sharing), and when I did this, the success coach told me that even though I was passed the deadline I would still be paid $10 for uploading since m y study guide passed the requirements (which they also don't tell you about- ask them about these requirements and they tell you to book another call). The $10 never appeared in my account so I contacted customer service and they told me I couldn't have my payment because my study guide was ineligible. What on earth????? They had just told me it passed all of he criteria and that I would be getting paid for uploading. Now all of the sudden it's ineligible, and when I asked what made it that way they can't tell me. Yet my study guide still benefit them, people in my class purchased it, it's still on their site. It was my work that they made money off of yet I received no compensation. I am extremely frustrated because I worked as a marketing coordinator and told all of my classmates that this was a good company and promoted things that weren't true and people in my classes asked me why I lied. Not okay at all with me.
