Pros
The only redeeming quality of Sumal Foods is their timely salary payments. However, it's apparent that this is merely a ploy to keep their exhausted and demotivated staff on board. A prompt paycheck cannot compensate for the immense physical and emotional toll this company exacts on its employees.
Cons
Words cannot adequately express the horror and disappointment I experienced during my time at Sumal Foods in Ibadan, Oyo State-Nigeria. This company's operations are riddled with multiple flaws, ranging from a toxic work culture to inhumane policies that prioritize foreigners over indigenous workers. Brace yourself for a shocking review of Sumal Foods. Let's start with the work culture - or should I say, lack thereof? Sumal Foods promotes an environment that fosters a pervasive atmosphere of fear and insecurity. Employees are treated as dispensable resources, subjected to harsh working conditions and an appalling lack of concern for their wellbeing. A sense of constant pressure hangs in the air, fostering an environment where stress and burnout are the norm. One of the most infuriating aspects of Sumal Foods is its blatant disregard for labor laws. The company consistently engages in the practice of forced labor, exploiting its workforce to the maximum extent possible. Employees are forced to work long extra hours and days for meagre overtime. The management exhibits a complete lack of respect for their employees' time and personal lives, leaving us exhausted and devoid of any semblance of work-life balance. Would you believe that Sumal Foods offers only 4 holidays in a year, New year, Workers day, Independence day and Christmas? The company remains open and operational every other day. Yes, you read that correctly. While the rest of the world recognizes the importance of rest and leisure, this company seems to view it as a luxury reserved for others. Employees are kept at the company's beck and call 360 days a year, without respite. Consequently, families are left neglected, special occasions forgotten, and personal lives set on an unstoppable downward spiral. Career growth? Forget about it! Sumal Foods has no room for advancement or professional development. They thrive on a culture of stagnation, where employees are trapped within the same roles for years without any opportunities for growth. This abysmal lack of career progression is particularly disheartening as it holds employees back from pursuing their dreams and aspirations. In addition to the rampant mistreatment of their workforce, Sumal Foods shamefully prioritizes foreigners over indigenous workers. Racism is deeply ingrained in their policies, as the company consistently offers preferential treatment to non-Nigerian workers. This discriminatory practice further demoralizes and alienates the local employees, creating a divide within the workplace that fosters resentment and division.
