Pros

I wouldn’t be where I am now without my time with Summus. This was an entry level position, but gave me an incredible opportunity to learn and grow in a small environment where I was able to get experience in so many different fields (IT, credentialing, management, finances, analytics, project management, etc). The doctor in charge is a kind hearted, generous man who has ambitious plans to improve healthcare and that attitude trickles down - everyone was hard working, passionate, and united in our goals. There were often birthday parties, team building activities, and holiday celebrations. I worked with good people, doing work that felt important.

Cons

My manager was a tremendous influence in my career and personal growth, and taught me so much in my two years there. However, it was two years fraught with anxiety and late nights. My manager yelled at me front of coworkers and clients - sometimes for things that were deserved, other times for things out of my control. Either way yelling at your employees is never acceptable. I worked extremely hard, long hours, often nights and weekends. But it wasn’t until I left that I felt appreciated, or that my hard work was noticed.

Pros

Fairly complete ownership of your own work. Exposure to multiple aspects of healthcare that you would not have in a more traditionally structured company.

Cons

Getting decisions made can sometimes be a challenge. Nepotism and favoritism in hiring, promotions, and retention. Financial decisions do not align with reality. Work multiple roles for extended periods of time without additional support or compensation.

Pros

Your immediate coworkers typically feel like a family if you’re lucky like I am.

Cons

-You will be stressed out trying to meet the demands of patients and corporate. -You will not work full time hours and will be hounded to stay under 36 hours per pay period. -Unforeseen issues happen often when it comes to getting paid on time. -You will end up doing the work of 2+ people with no support from management when you reach out due to their hands essentially being tied as well. -No one seems to know how to run a company. -You will be asked “what’s going on with this place” and “Are y’all closing down or something” by patients at least once a day because of the issues that arise or the lack of services provided due to understaffing and at some point you will believe it.
