Pros
Ontario, Canada The good things about working with Sunglass Hut were the occasional (but very rare) commission and fair base pay, the chance to work with some luxury brands, and the extensive training program for customer service and product knowledge. I learned a lot from this position.
Cons
The position started off great, however quickly went downhill. Turnover was extremely high, eleven employees quit in my four months of employment. The environment is very hostile and competitive due to the "sometimes" commission and the over-dependance on sales for hours. If your sales slip for two weeks, do not expect it to be easy to pull yourself back up because you will only get 0-8 hours per week afterwards. It's pretty impossible to pull your sales up when you're getting zero hours per week, so a lot of people were forced to quit. All of the competition, cut hours and drama started when our goals were suddenly increased by 200% per hour, which was very unrealistic considering the economy and the location of the store (busy tourist mall where people were not willing to spend 600 dollars on a pair of sunglasses). Those who did get 30+ hours per week were still considered "casual part-timers", thus they did not get increased pay or benefits of any kind. My sales were over 100% but I could not handle the competition, the drama and the lack of stability of this job.
