Pros

Flexible work schedule with remote setup. Meaningful opportunity to support people in need. Good training resources at the beginning. Role develops empathy and listening skills. Gratifying to make a direct impact in crises.

Cons

I was terminated unfairly despite following the spirit of protocol. The cited reason was that I didn’t ask the exact “danger” question, but the member had already clarified they were experiencing flashbacks, not current danger. I repeatedly asked if the person they feared was present, and they confirmed no. I supported them through a panic attack linked to trauma flashbacks, and they were grateful for the help. Instead of acknowledging that, management terminated me without a chance to explain, despite assurances that moderators can explain before being removed. There is no appeal process, and for a mental health company, the lack of compassion and fairness left me more harmed than supported.

Pros

Very flexible hours and overall a great company to be a part of. Great support for all employees and very responsive supervisors. Gives you core skills for emotionally supporting others.

Cons

Not consistent pay (but still great in terms of meeting minimum reps), can be emotionally taxing if you don’t take care of yourself (but management does an amazing job of supporting you)
