Great place to work - General Secondary Teacher Swan Hill Rural City Council Employee Review

You will get paid and your lower ranked colleagues will be fantastic people to work with. There is a lot of challenging / interesting work to do (if your management will let you get your hands on it and let you do it from start to finish).

Mast importantly, totally dysfunctional management - in this place everything revolves around making your manager look good. If things go well, you've done nothing. If things go not so well, YOU have caused the problem. And if you think you can avoid the politics - no, your manager will need to show something to prove that the work you are delivering is getting done because of him / her work. And if you run into an issue - it's your problem and your fault (don't come with problems, come with solutions). Also, this place has some serious Silo Mentality problems, and instead of breaking down "Silos" (as per the successful Silo Mentality elimination case studies / management theory books) Senior Management and the CEO believes that it comes from people (you) - so, you will not be working for the whole Swan Hill Council but for just one of its fragmented departments (otherwise the managers will struggle to look good) and there is not a lot you can do about it. And there are no talent retention incentives and no support. People leave their jobs very often. Almost every position in my department was filled with a new person once or twice over two years (and its not because of people retiring). Having left my job into temporary unemployment myself because of poor management, I really can't recommend joining this organization to anyone (unless you are from Swan Hill and desperately need work).

The town has nothing at all for young adults although we make up over half the population unless your a young punk skateboarding or 50+ then be prepared to sit at home with your thumb up your but
