A really bad job - Project Manager TISTA Science and Technology Employee Review

Pros

Just two- I like the work I do, just not the company I do it for. And so far, the job has remote flexibility.

Cons

The company doesn't seem to have any direction. They are quietly letting people go. The rumor is that bigger layoffs are expected soon. They have lost a lot of their existing work and don't seem to have prospects for new work. The new CEO appears to be "faking it until he makes it". He likes to offer his "pearls of wisdom" at the weekly town hall, but it is hard to take seriously since the company is where it is. This is not a female-friendly place to work. The man leading Business Development made derogatory comments about women in public...you'll see other reviews on here about that! While they tried to smooth it over, how they treat us shows their true feelings. If you are a woman, you WILL be discounted. Your opinion and expertise will not be taken seriously. In meetings, a man can literally say the same thing I said, after I said it, and the man will be given "credit" for the thought. Suzanne was my recruiter, and she will say anything to get you to take the offer. When they wanted me on the project, she promised everything. I was so excited when I took this job! However, I am not doing what I was hired to do and the advancement opportunities that attracted me to the job are zero. Get any expectations said to you verbally in writing! The pay is low, and the health insurance is bad. Something changed, and my doctor and prescriptions are no longer covered. The company is very focused on giving to charities. They even bought a house for homeless veterans! While valiant, we work so hard and the raises this year were so low. Some of my us are barely making it. It is their money, but I'm sure the Tista leaders don't have to worry about the cost of eggs and gas like the rest of us. The disconnect is obvious. I'm an experienced worker who has always earned excellent ratings on my reviews. However, I've never been treated as poorly as I have been here. I've been forced to give up important times with my family without notice due to bad management, I work unreasonably long hours, and my finances are worse than when I started due to my salary not keeping up with inflation. It is really hard to look for a new job while you work here because of the job demands. Plus, I don't want to look like a job hopper.
