Pros
Great mentorship! Everyone took the time to really explain the cases they were working on and the issues at hand before giving me tasks. Also because it is a small office you get to work directly with upper level management. Very open and collaborative environment where people appreciate the work that you are doing and you never feel stupid about asking questions. I was able to work on a wide variety of cases, which was great exposure to what being an actual associate is like. Also lots of fun activities—we went to a Cubs game, went on a boat tour of Lake Michigan, and happy hours! The people are a lot of fun!
Cons
Workload is difficult to predict because of the nature of the business and working with lawyers. This means some days are full of casework and some days are spent doing more training focused activities. That being said I would say I was working on actual case related work at least 80% of the time and the training activities weren’t just busywork, but helped me get a better grasp of litigation consulting.
