Great brand, modern workplace, 80's bureaucracy, not innovative - Product Manager TMX Group Employee Review

Pros

Strong brand in Canadian capital markets. Feeling of pride to work here. Genuine desire seen to modernize workplace culture & technologies. CEO is trying hard to innovate business despite a slow-moving, regulated industry. Most people here are nice & friendly, cooperative, and bring a sense of warmth and belonging.

Cons

If you are nice and friendly, it is difficult to get ahead. Those seen to be inept and non-collaborative are the ones also advancing. Some years ago they skimmed the org chart and removed mid level management. But last year a lot of that mid layer was finding its way back. There are strong remnants of the exchange club here. People across departments reminisce about the 80’s trade floor. Despite strong HR-speak, several business line managers are averse to and flatly refuse WFH. Some senior managers prefer employees to use phone over emails to chat with vendors & clients! Innovation comes in the form of an unhealthy obsession to launch some new platform every year. You will see intelligent members of the Ex Comm passionately nodding to a new platform idea that every layperson in the town hall can see as a poorly validated thought struggling to lift off. As the U.S. exchanges are seen launching new types of tradeable securities and capitalizing on them, the TMX prefers to stick to its bread-and-butter equity & ETF products.

Pros

Large company so the benefits were industry standard

Cons

Everything else. No guidance every role is siloed and does not collaborate much. Senior Execs stay in their bubble
