Thank for you recommending Tanner Health System. As you know, we provide our patients with award-winning care, and our corporate leaders consistently receive various local and national recognitions. We assume your experience with an immediate supervisor led you to list some of the cons on your list. Employee surveys and regular manager training are just two of the many ways that we proactively address management skills and emotional intelligence. We also encourage employees to contact our Human Resources department at any time if they have issues that can’t be resolved with a manager. You also mentioned “low pay” without indicating the job you do. If you recall, we regularly look at comparative jobs in our region in terms of pay scale, and we review all employees annually, with increases based on both employee and department goals and performance. We hope that you would consider Tanner again should the right job come along.

Pros

The organization has a strong mission and serves an important role in the local community. Many employees are deeply committed to their work and care about doing the right thing for patients and colleagues. This can be a place to gain experience and build foundational skills for individuals early in their careers or those seeking stability.

Cons

Opportunities for professional growth and advancement are limited, particularly for employees who remain with the organization long term. Career pathways and promotion criteria were not always clear or applied consistently, which made advancement challenging. Leadership decision-making did not consistently incorporate input from internal subject-matter experts, which at times slowed progress and limited the effectiveness of improvement efforts. Accountability at higher levels of leadership appeared uneven, while expectations remained high for frontline and mid-level staff. Compensation was below market for several roles, including leadership positions, making retention difficult. HR processes related to hiring, compensation, and employee relations lacked transparency and consistency, which impacted trust and morale.
