Loved my time at The Asher House - Animal Caretaker The Asher House Employee Review

Pros

Loved my co-workers and management. I never had any issues really. They had top of the line equipment and supplies to take care of the animals. Unlike other animal rescues I have worked, here I felt heard and that my opinions and ideas mattered. I have no idea why some of these other reviews are what they are. I witnessed none of that in my time there. Maybe disgruntled employee or something. I wish I was still able to work there, but had to move out of state for personal reasons. We were held to high standards of care for the animals which for me was not an issue because I loved them all.

Cons

There were a few lazy employees that always tried to give their work away. Eventually they were replaced.

Pros

Animals are mostly well taken care of Wages are okay Flexible with scheduling days off, generally

Cons

HR and employee issues abound. Hazing, harassment, bullying, employee endangerment, and wage theft. I watched one of my previous supervisors count down a coworkers bathroom break out loud outside the restroom so that she could hear it. Unfair treatment and favoritism common place. They were very nice and considerate to me, they treated some of my coworkers horribly. Some animal care issues. Chronic understaffing caused bare minimum care and on some days animals not being cared for at all (2 separate occasions in the year that I worked there). All 3 of the out gay women who worked there were fired in the time I was there, so, that was super disturbing. There was exactly 1 non-white employee who I met in my year there. The staff was 8 for horses and livestock (my division) and 40 for dogs and management.
