Great team and culture, but base article rates could be improved - Editor TheGamer Employee Review

Pros

TheGamer is a great place for newcomers to start in the industry as they don't expect a portfolio of work to apply, you just submit a written sample and resume. I started as a List Writer and progressed up through several promotions to editor, so I also like that they promote from within. They've been super flexible with working patterns, which makes juggling personal life with work life a lot easier. The team has been super friendly, and I've learned a lot from others, especially in areas that I wasn't familiar with. It's great to be able to speak with staff in other departments to learn from them and continue to hone my own skills. I especially like the culture of TheGamer. There's definitely a sense of "team spirit", and I love to see the team writing about things they are passionate about and tackling important issues.

Cons

Base article rates for Freelancers are not the best within the industry (though also not the worst). There are bonus schemes, but I feel improved base rates per article would go a long way to making writers happier and attracting new talent.

Pros

A very passionate group of gamers who I love interacting with on a daily basis. TG covers a lot of different styles of games which means there is always something interesting going on and a lot to discover while I work

Cons

Digital publishing is always changing so there are regular changes to strategy.
