Pros

- All the team in my store (Angel) were amazing, really friendly, great team spirit. There were times I was crying with laughter, we had such good fun together and took care of each other. - Loads of freebies -- there's a box where damaged/discontinued stock is thrown every day and staff can take as much as they like. Depending on the size of the store this could be hundreds of pounds worth of stock each week - If you are valuable to your management team, they will bend over backwards to accommodate you. I was lucky enough to be given the days and shifts I wanted after I told them I wanted to leave. I ended up staying another year as a result - The pay is above minimum wage (though I'm assuming this depends on location of your store)

Cons

- Definite favouritism across all the stores, and head office. If your management team decide they don't like you, don't expect them to help you with progression, requested hours or shift changes, or expect them to give you the time of day at all - Crazy hours expected to work -- over Christmas the hours are extended which meant a lot of my team were expected to work 2pm - 11pm every day, with no consideration from management that people have lives outside of work! Also management would make the rota so that they would always do the early/desirable shifts, and anyone they didn't like would be stuck with the bad/late ones - The amount of work you're expected to do, at any level, is insane. Especially if you're in a bigger store. The company as a whole is severely understaffed as they're currently cost-cutting. In one shift you can be expected to work in the warehouse, replenish the stock on the shop floor, fill up the cupboards underneath the tables with stock which involves multiple trips with trollies from the shop floor to the warehouse and back, jump on the till whenever they ring for you, re-merchandise entire sections on your own, and still have a polite smile on your face when you get constantly interrupted by customers as there's nobody else to help you. To give you some perspective - in the space of two months, 8 employees left as they were so overworked and exhausted, and management didn't replace anybody. The remaining staff were just expected to pick up the slack from 8 people. Ridiculous - Opportunities for progression never appear until you tell them you want to leave, then they panic and try to offer you anything to try and make you stay.

Pros

Met some nice people there.

Cons

I started as a supervisor about a week after the store had opened. I had expected that on my first day that there would have been some sort of induction/training however this was not the case. 3 days into the job I was still not properly till trained, comfortable with the cashing up procedures or even fully aware of what my duties and responsibilities actually were. I was not the only one who felt like this since everybody just seemed to be muddling through and not really knowing fully what they were doing. Rotas for the week starting on a Monday were given late Sunday night so at such short notice staff were not turning up. Rotas were also changed without being told about it. In the week I was there, there was a constant turnover of staff. At least 14 people left in the space of 3 days. Pay was low for a supervisor position, especially considering what was expected of you. Management was completely disorganised and confused which was largely down to a lack of communication. After a week I left to go back to my old job because I did not feel confident that this was a stable enough position for me. There will be teething troubles when a new store is opened but what I experienced goes above and beyond simple teething problems.

Pros

nice atmosphere and the people I worked with were the reason I stayed as long as I did

Cons

.crap pay .work like a slave .disgusting mannerisms from customers (like buying a carrier bag is the end of the world) .you cant take time off during october to december time .rotas are crap, good luck if you want at least one weekend off .no flexibility with rotas, you need a certain day off its impossible to swap with others as the whole bleeding team work the days you do. .you do overtime you wont get paid for it .no bonuses considering tiger can afford it. Most tiger stores always hit targets including the store I was in .not really worth the time and energy as it's wasted on unappreciative management .no matter how many times your called up to serve customers and trying to get your sections filled if it looks a bit empty you have to stay back and finish. Bare in mind if you have to replenish the walls they will take you a day at least and then you have to do the tables. too much stock in the stock room and such a tiny stock room which makes your life a lot harder overall crap company to work for, i would rather be a cleaner and would get paid more money than work here. oh i forgot you had to be the toilet cleaner in tiger as well, no excuses.
