Pros
I started working at Timmermann Group in December of 2011, was one of TG's longest standing employees, and saw the epoch of how the company grew from its humble beginnings to the full-fledged marketing agency it is today. Being a part of that exponential growth taught me invaluable skills in the digital marketing industry and life in general. Being a part of TG's team is something I'll be proud of for the rest of my life. Rob (Timmermann) took a chance and hired me not based on my scholastic or professional achievements, but based on my desire to work, and work hard. I started at the bottom of the food chain, so to speak, although there were initially only 6 people in the company at that time, myself included. From making spreadsheets and combing over lead lists to keeping the fridge stocked, I was given initiate tasks and performed them diligently. It was an opportunity I'd have never received elsewhere at the time, given my lack of prior work experience in a professional environment, and a hiring practice that continued to be true for others. Quickly, though, my technical capability was noticed. I was given more and more opportunities, room to grow and learn, and the freedom to define my own role as I went. This has been a constant I’ve observed at TG throughout my time with them; demonstrating capability, growth and development, and opportunities to progress to leadership roles will be achieved from the effort you put in. The equation isn't difficult, but you have to both want it bad enough and be willing to accept input as you progress. Make no mistake though, you will be recognized for your achievements and rewarded accordingly. When I left TG, they had just moved into a new office in a really cool part of town with an open floorplan and no sense of placement based on seniority. Leaving was difficult to say the least given my history with the company, but the move to a new office was a pivotal moment for TG. The timing was right, and it was the perfect opportunity to use the skills I learned from Rob and TG's team to take off on a side project I had been working on since 2013. To those considering working at TG, go with an open mind and fierce hunger. Even if you are already a professional in the industry, you'll constantly be learning new things while keeping a core workflow that is fast, efficient, and methodical. You'll work closely together with other driven and talented individuals who are passionate about their role, but not competitive. You will grow with the company, plain and simple, opportunities are given when available, and you'll lead with the skills learned throughout your time with TG.
Cons
There will always be growing pains with a company that evolves as quickly as TG has. That is to be expected though. Sometimes it might seem that the wrong call is being made, but in most cases it is well founded and more opportunities for growth arise from it. I’ve had disagreements with the owner and other employees a few times over policy or simple difference of opinion which in some cases can feel like you've been "mowed over" due to the fast pace of work. Communication is key though and being able to articulate clearly and efficiently will ensure your concerns are heard loud and clear (and they will be). The HR director, Danyal, takes a direct and pragmatic approach to adjudicating workplace issues which may seem a bit black and white at times, but is fair and well rooted in HR policy as she has extensive experience in management positions of her own. This is a two-way street, though, and you will be advocated for fiercely if you feel a situation outside of the standard work dynamic must be addressed. If you are not willing to be receptive to accepting input, collaborating with others, or are simply content with a static position, this is not the company for you. Through hard work, you ultimately will be able to define your role. The work environment is not one-sided, rather a constant dynamic of discourse. This might seem intimidating to some, but the TG team is just that: a team. If you are willing to be a part of that team, your experience at TG will be just that much more rewarding and gratifying.
