Pros
The culture at Toast is amazing. Team members really care for each other and are very supportive. Great benefits and perks, including unlimited pto, wellness stipend and commuter benefits. Fun events, happy hours, free snacks, team-building activities, the PUB! The list goes on. Toast had a true sense of community. The talent bar was set high, which was challenging for recruiters but the team that was built was pretty solid. The product and service is superior. The Co-founders and CEO are good people who truly care about their team. There was a lot of growth potential pre COVID-19.
Cons
Not many cons, but there are a couple of points I hope will help Toast improve Toast should better invest in proper interview training for all interviewers and hiring managers. Many didn't realize there are a lot of great companies that were hiring and didn't make the candidate experience a priority during interviewing. Recruiters had to do a lot of clean-up from poor interviews at times. The interview process could be lengthy with unrealistic expectations. Toast promotes diversity, but some hiring managers had blinders on and wanted to hire people who were exactly like them. While everyone appreciated the transparency and understood the reason behind the layoff, the lack of communication on why - who stayed and who was laid off was not well communicated and doesn't make a lot of sense. Leadership said tenure and success played a role but that's not what happened given several very recent (senior-level) people team hires stayed and several tenured, successful recruiters were laid off.
