Pros

Unique school, small student numbers overall, class sizes are small compared to public school. There are opportunities to do fun stuff like field trips and international trips as well. If you are a new teacher, you will learn a lot.

Cons

Almost no breaks throughout the day, you need to be available at 9am to help with homework, teach 4 classes, run a lunchtime club or sport and do extra help after school as well. Tons of unpaid mandatory school events that everyone is required to go to outside of the regular school day including some Saturdays. It’s common for there to be some type of drama amongst staff/management and it’s uncomfortable and unprofessional. There is very high turnover in staff who have been there less than 4 years and they are constantly hiring to replace people they fired or who quit.

Pros

The staff and principal and vice principal are the pros. Everyone is very giving and kind. They will train you, but you cannot be complacent. It’s clear the owners invest in their staff members and students. Facilities are fully stocked. We get awesome lunches. They give the usual health and dental benefits with added RRSP Matching.

Cons

Sometimes there’s some student squabbles but that’s normal in a high school. there’s such a positive community at TPS that it’s usually gets drowned out or addressed by the principal and vice principal.

Pros

The students are lovely, and sometimes the revolving door of teachers will bring in some good people to work with. If you’re looking to get some teaching experience without an OCT, and you can handle terrible management, you might consider working here.

Cons

The VP is incredibly condescending; teachers don’t have a prep period (because there is no union), and no one in administration has an OCT. They also have a clause in their contracts where you can’t talk about your salary otherwise you will be terminated. If you have an OCT, join the board!
