Great short-term job, too physical for long-term - Crew Member Trader Joe's Employee Review

Pros

Great health insurance/benefits, 2) somewhat decent raises/per year, 3) Normally do get PTO approved if R/O ahead of time 4) Great relationships developed within store. 5) )$10/hour EXTRA pay on Sundays (if they give you a Sunday shift)

Cons

1) Extremely physical, you're almost guaranteed to get worker's comp. 2) It's retail, so the pay is not going to cover major expenses unless you have a spouse to contribute, etc. 3) Since it's so physical, long-term it will not benefit your body at all. It's ideal for a temporary amount of time. 4) Retail hours- you will be working weekends, early mornings at 5am, or late nights until 10pm. No business hours of course. 5) HR is a joke, reporting an incident will do nothing, it is not confidential, and will come back to management.

Pros

Flexible schedule is the best part of the job. A lot depends on your captain but it can be a good gig at the right store. Employee discount is 20% and there is usually food in the break room.

Cons

Most employees don't have any kind of education past high school. Can be very frustrating in that aspect. Will consistently get hours but your schedule can wildly change week to week. Expectations are often unclear and lost in gray areas. Customer experiences are much more negative than positive once you become a mate. Never really have any down time or room to breathe. If you think you are a people person, make sure you really are or else you will dislike the job. Takes over a decade at least to be promoted to Captain, if you get lucky.
