Pros

Benefits and pay were adequate.

Cons

Extremely bad cut-throat culture. Throwing somebody under the bus was a must. No one could take responsibility for any mistakes. We are all human. Sometimes mistakes happen and instead of focusing on fixing them, it was multi-week witch hunt to find who to blame. The only people that survive there are old-timers who learned how to play the game and stay afloat. They can't keep any young talent long enough which says enough. In Madison, most recruiters know it to be a "stay away" company. Oh, you want to implement new expensive technology? Sure, but we won't train you and expect you to know everything in and out. Or better we'll hire contracts who barely understand IT concepts and then transfer the management to you. Have fun dealing with incredible amount of mismanagement! You want training? You have to do it on your own personal time. Lots of people are in positions without having the knowledge to perform their roles. Mostly due to staying with the company long enough and most of IT are in the union which makes it really hard to fire anyone. You want a promotion or apply to a higher role? Well, in most cases your performance review will be bad and the union rules will hire someone who has been longer even if they don't qualify to do the job. If you want to do paper pushing and be average, maybe it's a place for you. Forget about innovation or new ideas. Keep you head down or it will get cut. People are toxic towards everyone. IT Managers don't understand what their direct reports are doing. Even if you are subject matter expert, your opinion won't matter because IT managers will make one for you. Oh, and they will blame you for something going wrong even if you told them not to do it. The new CEO came in and monthly layoffs started happening. Instead of firing people, they played it as "your position got eliminated" which works very interesting with severance . Apply to this position instead where other people contest for. Oh, and if you got hired earlier than someone else, you can choose to fire a newer team member instead. Your choice...

Pros

Great company with lots of problems to solve in IT. There's always room for you to grow, new problems to solve, and they are generally just a good place to work. Hybrid work environment is great as well.

Cons

Non-industry-standard titles for IT employees, and I feel like salaries might be just a touch below industry standards as well.

Pros

Competitive pay and good benefits

Cons

Way too much going and l everything is a priority. When concerns are brought up as management is struggling to stay above water daily due to leading multiple teams, having a dozen or more priorities and being in back to back meetings every day, the concerns get brushed off and manager is told to figure it out. Lack of long term departmental vision from Director and constant shift in direction. Director does not care about team members and when concerns brought up from team members through the manager to Director, they get brushed off. So much restructuring going on constantly and leades get replaced every few years due to that. Concerns about more outsourcing down the road as new 3rd party company is starting to take a major application and moving data to their data centers. New major solutions get picked without looking at multiple vendors and any research. Director has a tyrannical leadership style and shuts down conversations and suggestions from management. Director only cares about his image to his peers and people above him and does not care about people reporting to him or people that his managers lead. Management and individual contributors morale is low due to above reasons. Not a good long term place to work.
