Pros

Great benefits A number of paid holidays. Very good vacation/sick leave compensation.

Cons

Your experience can vary greatly depending on what group you are with and who your manager is, verbal threats, blatant lies, misleading information Heavy favoritism is prevalent throughout the organization. Lack of integrity and ethics. Good old boy system is deeply embedded within this organization. I t does not matter how good you are at your job you're not going to get a raise unless you're a member of the clique. If you're okay with somebody else taking credit for your work and your accomplishments, then this is the place for you. Issues discussed in confidence with HR tend to leak back to the wrong people. It's a hostile work environment for outsiders, you'll find out that unless member of these cliques that you're not welcome in this organization. Its a conniving work place where people get what they want and justify any and everything to that end.

Pros

Good health insurance, vacation and sick leave! No mandatory overtime

Cons

Hired remote before Covid and this agency ended all telework even though other state agencies kept it! Doing the work of 3 people but pay for 1 …building outdated (except for HQ in Austin), lack of modern software but PeopleSoft gets the job done, High mandatory pension deductions right at 9.5% big hit to paycheck! Getting paid once a month big adjustment. Ending telework really limits their talent pool around the state of Texas now must live in Austin if you want access to the majority of good jobs.
