Pros
Nearly impossible to get fired (though not outsourced) Decent compensation, though they keep cutting bonuses, etc. Medical benefits are average or slightly below average Some talented people, though most top talent in IT has left the company
Cons
Management above director level is mostly clueless about what people do. Upper management is a revolving door. Expect a new CIO and CEO every few years with "new" strategies that they bring. Lack of nearly any kind of standards Management does not trust staff, tends to trust consultants more than employees. Company suffers from much "analysis paralysis" and moves quite slowly. Company generally has a penny-wise, pound foolish approach Very little long-term thinking, strategies are very short-term and change often Heavily offshoring as much IT as possible, future seems poor for onshore (US) IT staff Morale quite low among workers, most just doing enough to get by There are some bright people, but lots of average or below-average talent. Supervalu doesn't really attract top talent, and if they do they don't stay long due to reasons above. Lots of legacy IT hardware and software that company will not spend money on to modernize.
